Bishul — Privacy Policy
The short version: Bishul does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information about you. The app stores your preferences and feedback only on your device. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers.
What Bishul does not collect
We do not collect, log, or transmit any of the following:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any contact information
- Your location
- Your device identifiers, IP address, or advertising IDs
- Your usage of the app (no analytics or telemetry)
- Your contacts, photos, calendar, microphone, or camera
- Any health, financial, or sensitive personal data
The app does not contain advertising and does not share any data with advertising networks.
What Bishul stores on your device
To make the app useful, Bishul saves the following on your device using local storage. This data never leaves your device:
- Recipes you marked as favorite, liked, or disliked
- Ingredients you checked off in a recipe's shopping list
- Your settings (appearance, hide-disliked, wait-time, allow-fish-with-dairy, calendar suggestions)
- Beta-test feedback you log within the app (until you choose to share it — see below)
You can clear this data at any time using Settings → Clear my data in the app, or by deleting the app, which removes all local storage with it.
Feedback you choose to send
Bishul includes a Beta feedback form. When you tap Send feedback, the app opens your device's Mail app with the feedback pre-filled, addressed to the developer. Sending the email is your choice — Bishul itself does not transmit the message. The email you send will contain the text you wrote, the category you selected, the app version, and your device's User-Agent string (used only to help diagnose bugs).
You can edit or cancel the email before sending. If you do send it, the email is delivered to the developer's inbox and is treated as personal correspondence — not stored in any database, not shared, and not used for marketing.
Children
Bishul is suitable for all ages and is rated 4+. We do not knowingly collect information from children or anyone else, because we do not collect information at all.
Halachic and dietary content
The app provides recipe, kosher, and Hebrew-calendar information as general guidance. It is not a substitute for consulting your rabbi (posek) for specific halachic questions, or a healthcare provider for dietary or medical advice. Always check ingredient certifications against your own kosher standards.
Third-party services
Bishul uses the open-source Hebcal JavaScript library, bundled inside the app, to compute the Hebrew calendar locally on your device. The library does not make network requests and does not transmit your data.
The app is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple's own privacy practices apply to your App Store account — see Apple's Privacy Policy.
Security
Because Bishul does not collect or transmit personal data, there is no server-side database to be breached. Data stored on your device is protected by your device's own security (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID).
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version of the app adds optional features that involve data collection — we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the new policy at this URL. Material changes will also be announced inside the app.
